see abi ..... own a home!

So we made it. We're safely in Louisiana. We closed on the house on the 21st. All the boxes have been delivered. The internet & TV have been connected. I couldn't be happier (and more overwhelmed).

And, hubby bought a new truck. Ford F-150. Cherry red. Extended crew cab. Very nice. Wife-approved.

I'm trying to take this unpacking business one day at a time. We're through more than half of the boxes. I'm hoping this holiday weekend will give us enough time to get through all of it.

But, don't worry, it hasn't been all boxes. We've also planted a garden, started a compost pile & attended our first crawfish boil. I'll update you all on that later.

And because pictures are fun.... I've started the FLY Lady program. Here's my shiny sink.

see abi travel: hospitality and general kindness

If you are a host to your guest, be a host to his dog also. ~Russian Proverb

Part of being a good guest & good family member means not airing dirty laundry on your blog.

But I stand by the fact that my dog & husband are not pieces of shit.

In other news, one of our favorite parts of coming home is enjoying good food. Hometown grub it truly comfort food.

Here is Patrick, enjoying his favorite calzone from Hello Faz! in Ann Arbor.

And for good suds, we like:
The Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti
Original Gravity in Milan

see abi design: dining room

Hubby is in the Army. We had a WWII themed wedding. We have relatives in nearly every branch. So basically, we're a bit patriotic. Not tacky patriotic, but patriotic. For a couple years now, I've had this idea in my head of taking old school military elements to decorate our formal dining room. It's where we'll do much of our entertaining when it comes to Patrick's career and it's a nice way to pay tribute to our family members.

So, yesterday, we went walking around Depot Town. Depot Town is a beautiful little section of Ypsilanti, MI that features antique stores, good food, farmers market & beautiful parks. We stopped into Kim's Resale Shop and picked up this little treasure to add to vintage military decor.

I can't wait to find the perfect frame for it.

I think I've figured it out. I had a blog for knitting. I had a blog for life. I had a blog for ranting. None of them were ever updated. So let's try combining them.

It's also a good time for a restart because ..... I'm a first time home buyer! So excited. We close on a beautiful home in DeRidder, LA on May 20th.

Never thought I'd live in Louisiana, but that's where the Army needs us. And, well, the area is growing on me.

So have fun watching me decorate it.

But for now, we're visiting family in Michigan. I'm off to enjoy a family picnic at my aunt's.
